Students working on a field project in a Wild English School classroom

City & Sea

The City & Sea Curriculum

Learning by immersion, not memorization. Week 1 decodes urban systems in Limerick; Week 2 investigates marine geography in Galway.

The Engine

Place-Based CLIL & Digital Output

Behind the cinematic "City and Sea" framework lies rigorous, validated pedagogy. We utilize Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) combined with Place-Based Education (PBE). Students acquire advanced English naturally — not by staring at grammar tables, but by actively investigating real-world environments, interviewing local experts, mapping urban architecture, and collecting field data. Language mastery is measured by output: students script, shoot, and edit their findings into professional media assets.

The River Shannon and Limerick city quays

Week One

Limerick — Human Geography & Urban Systems

The Focus: The city as a living organism. Students explore how the River Shannon shapes commerce, architecture, and modern Irish social dynamics.

Field Investigations & Production: Architectural mapping along the quays, local business audits, and the production of short-form urban documentary reels published via the school's channels and app.

Galway and the Atlantic coastline

Week Two

Galway — Physical Geography & Marine Science

The Focus: The Atlantic margin. The curriculum pivots to weather systems, coastal conservation, and the ecological footprint of the western seaboard.

Field Investigations & Production: Intertidal ecological surveys in Salthill, Atlantic weather pattern logging, and the creation of live-action environmental broadcast dispatches.
